So, currently i'm having a problem that while not persay 'hard' to solve is still becoming a little bit of an annoyance.
and that is that when ever food is ready. my chars who are at 249 food go to grab it as quickly as possible leaving people who actually need the food more IE people below 200 to get nothing. simply because as soon as food is ready every one reguardless of circumstance. goes to grab the food and basically steals it an forces other characters to starve. because they might be slightly farther away from the food.
and while the obvious and most basic solution to this is to increase food production so that there is enough excess that its not a problem.
i think it would be nice to have a priority edit, or system check that we could set so that the game would send people to get food in order of most hungry to least hungry.
if there is /1/ food deposited into the food crate. then it should select the character with the lowest hunger to go to the crate first.
if 5 food is deposited then the 5 people with the lowest hunger would be sent.
instead of every body bum rushing the barrel an taking the food regardless of their hunger situation.
this would mostly be fore situations where you're producing just enough or a little bit less than you need. but would allow you to better manage the food resources so that people don't start falling under 200 food. simply because the gluttons closest to the food barrel decided they rather eat , than let their starving clan mate have something. -.- Greed is not okay in my army! i'd execute them if i could..but then noone would learn anything and i'd have to hire another person to replace them! <.<
Food priority.

I'm assuming Kenshi is not supposed to be a socialist uptopia so when a person is hungry they are gonna go grab some food and not carefully consider who is more hungry than themselves. Step up your food production m8 otherwise if so many people are close to 200 micromanage it.
That's a blunt random persons perspective on this problem for entertainment purposes only until someone more qualified gives an answer.

Kenshi or more so the settlements in Kenshi are areas where people work. when you do a job, you expect that you will have your food .
Farmers farm, cooks cook, guards guard.
and when they're doing their jobs they would expect to get their food when its time.
with that said any culture that values honour, or hard work. would ensure that those people who are hungry. get their food before those who are just a little peckish.
it should be something that is recognized with in the game. that the most hungry get the food first. those who are just a little squimish, should have to wait their turn.
not only is this morally the right thing to do. but from a practical stand point it is also the right thing to do.
because in a world like Kenshi there is survival in numbers. and those numbers all being strong. or atleast in peak condition to aid in the survival of their fellow clansmen. means that everyone should aim for everyone in their clan to be fed. so that they can continue to all do their share.
unless you're running a slavers paradise where only the slavers get to eat and the slaves get whatever scraps are left.
which my settlement is not a slavers paradise..though it does have slaves >.> but still. i rather my 'slaves' not starve to death. simply because they had to walk a little farther to get the food than the guard at the door to the kitchen who ideally would ensure that only those who need the food get it.

The food AI is a little buggy.
I am stress testing the boundaries of settlements. I have the food in the middle of an ultra large settlement. the good news is i have yet to encounter starvation in this play through.
Everyone flocks to dustwhichs, but they ignore gohan. I have a full barrel of gohan, but the dustwhich station is the one they go to first.
Honestly the guys are supposed to feed themselves when they hit 250 hunger, but sometimes they don't.
You still have to watch them, especially if they are training. They don't eat when they train.

I don't think anything is wrong with the current system from that point of view. Mechanics are simple and effective. AI is straightforward: it knows that it should take food when below 250 hunger, so it does, and the fact that one particular AI was closer to the source at the moment of production is mere coincedence. Or mathematical statistics, if you like. If some unit didn't managed to take food before the other, that means some underproduction is going on.
I don't think it would be wise to burden the already heavy code with such priorities. Of course to humanist it may seem a bit unfair when group of battle-hardened buddies still donesn't count with each other's needs, but when solution is as simple as a bit of overproduction, why even bother?

swillo wrote:I wouldn't mess with that overall food AI. I would just add a job to "Feed the Hungry" Or waitress/waiter job. Then you can assign someone to grab food and take it to the hungriest person.
that wouldn't be to bad. as an alternative. since the main goal would be to make your base more efficient with the same amount of food.
after all ensuring someone with <200 hunger gets fed before someone with 249 hunger would simply be more productive. since below 200 stat penalties start to occur.
and it makes more sense for someone whose starving to get it not due to humanitarian ideals. but because its more practical. ideally being able to set the 'rules' of your clan would also be a nice addition. for separating our faction from the others.
simply adding a food priority though seems at its core somewhat easier and more practical than adding in a food runner. (though only if we got to determine their operational range. i'd hate to have one of m characters die because he tried to run across the map to bring someone food when they didn't exactly need it because someone else in the traveling group was carrying the food an just waiting for the opportune moment to give it to them so as to make the most out of your food supplies.
since running your base efficiently or traveling groups. allows you to do more with less especially if you are producing exactly enough to ensure no one starves to death .
