Not sure if this will help but, the only time i was able to buy an animal was when i was near the "settled nomads" town, east to the swamplands. After buying a garru I noticed it came from the other side of the map (the "you can bypass this region in beta" or something like this) and was somewhat far away from the trader I bought it. When I centered the view to te recent bought animal, it was with a bunch of nomads and animals stuck in that border beta line, swiming in a lake (and trying to get to the town i think)
All the other times i tried happened the same as previous players said.
Edit: I was about to try to recreate the situation and the first random animal trader i found, near Blister hill, was selling all the animals, I bought a goat and it worked... Murphy's law i guess.
Probably the devs fixed it?

I too have the problem. Went to the mods forum to find a fix because I haven't seen anything from the devs yet. I found a post by a mod developer on Steam that located the cause of the bug.
If anyone is interested in the mod until an official fix is implemented, you can grab it here. Of course, with any mod, not sure how it will affect the stability of the game. Especially if used in the experimental branch. http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/f ... =747623151
Hopefully this helps the actual devs apply a bug fix for this to push to us. I hate having to resort to mods to fix things that should be as easy as changing tags (though I say easy and can't figure out how/where to do it myself).Shidan [author] May 28 @ 4:29am
I think I fixed most instances of the bug. I still saw one case after my changes, but the other couple dozen I tested were fine.
Apparently their animal stocks were tied to distance from their camp. Since they never stayed at the camp they spawn at, it didn't read as having any animals. I've now swapped them to Homeless squads which made most of them work. Still not sure why the one didn't though...

I'm not entirely sure if that was the same issue. Though it's definitely related.
In the mod, I was encountering this problem with camps that were spawning wandering groups. If I caught the traders at their camp, I could still see the animal stock. But if I followed them away the camp, they'd suddenly lose the stock (despite still having the animals with them). And actually, if another group wandered into the camp, I was able to see their animals, despite talking to another group entirely.
My "fix" was to switch to homeless squads, and it seemed to work in most cases. But the squads added in vanilla that are not working seem to be homeless squads themselves, so I suspect that mine won't be anymore either. But I haven't been running my mod lately, and I've yet to actually see one of the vanilla animal traders in-game. So I've not had a chance to test the for the bug yet.

Same problem here.
Confirmed that traders do have animals without harnesses following them. It applies all variety of nomad traders, even those with camps. Same for the ones coming to the base.
Basicly all the animals traders I could acces to. Didn't check the HN one since my char is wanted and a scorcher. (playing RPG style)
Game version exp 0.96.27 save started at 0.96.25 so no major changes in the patchnotes. No mods.

Unfortunately, the mod I listed in my previous post did not seem to fix the issue. All nomad animal traders I have seen since have nothing to sell. Even the ones that specifically come to my outpost saying they have animals to sell, and do appear to have animals in tow.
Maybe not a tag related issue as previously thought. Any ideas on what it could be?
