Choose which weapon to fight with
So, currently we can have a primary and secondary weapons, up to 3 weapons total (two on your back and one on your hip).
(I do not know what purpose does it serve to be able to equip 2 weapons on your back, as dual wielding is not a thing, and your character always seems to prefer the one placed on the top slot in their inventory menu. Regardless, that's another topic for another time. Moving on.)
How about we could choose from the inventory which weapon to use in combat manually?
Why?
Say that you're carrying a fragment axe in your main weapon slot and a ninja blade in your secondary.
Now, for whatever reason, you want to use your secondary weapon instead of your main, be it due to you wanting to bleed your opponent(s), you're not experienced enough with the heavy weapon for the fight you're against, or simply you want to get some dexterity exp up.
Whatever the case is, the current system needs you to unequip your main weapon to use your secondary, or to be indoors.
Say you're out in the wild, so indoors is not an option, and due to the size of the fragment axe (going by the example still), you can't just unequip it, unless you have a bag that's big enough that would hinder your combat capabilities or drop it/trade it.
____________
Is there really any good reason for this not being a thing?
Is anyone really against this being a thing?

I don't see any reason not to add another checkbox next to weapon slots. However, there're no reasons to do so either.
Why would you carry something in your weapon slot if you don't want\unable to use it? Put it away or throw it alltogether, simple.

Because it effectively functions as extra inventory space, and in some cases as an inventory space that is a little wider then your backpack.Sol Lignum wrote: ↑Mon Jan 22, 2018 4:09 pmWhy would you carry something in your weapon slot if you don't want\unable to use it?

Sure thing, but for the purpose of looting, finding something smaller could be a better option to consider. Even if it's less of a value, heavy cutters dominantely got the worst weight\value ratio anyway, so you might as well just throw it away and grab 3-4 smaller weapons instead.
This is something I've been asking for for years. In an ideal world I'd want something similar to the run speed selection, arrows to cycle between various options (Auto, Primary, Secondary, Unarmed). It makes no sense to have to throw your weapons on the ground if you want to punch someone in the face, or use a different weapons.
Easy example of a moment this would be very useful is when bounty hunting. Keeping a Jitte in the secondary slot to take down targets in a non-lethal way, but keeping your primary as a lethal weapon to deal with most enemies. Currently you either have to throw your main weapon on the ground or stuff it in a bag/pocket to use your secondary, or you have to make the Jitte your primary and fight all the enemies with the non-lethal.

Must be the way i'm playing obscuring all other possible aspects to me. I just can't imagine how one would constantly micromanage the weapon choice for ~30 more or less equal characters. Maybe it's becoming a thing when ther're just not so many of them.
It's a feature that can be used when wanted/needed, but it's not a mandatory thing to micromanage all the time for all of your characters.Sol Lignum wrote: ↑Tue Jan 23, 2018 9:45 amMust be the way i'm playing obscuring all other possible aspects to me. I believe for many people, me included, this would just be a quality of life improvement. Not a major change to how people play the game, but making it easier for those that, for whatever reason, want to switch between their main weapon and secondary weapon.

Even i would like to see that option become available.
Do you believe the sexes should be equal?
Oh heavens no.
Then Men would become unmanageable
Current computer specs.
AMD FX-8150 - Eight Core, 3.60GHz
NVidia GTX 1050TI
24GB Corsair Vengeance DDR3 1600 MHz Ram
WD 1tb HD, 870 EVO 1TB SSD

simple example, just starting out and you come across a bone dog lair with a rusty old frag axe just laying around. well worth the cats to pick it up, but you don't have the strength or skills to use it. And if you don't have a medium or larger bag you have to strap it to your back. But you probably don't want to use it. same goes for picking up just a simple saber. If you don't have room in your pack you are forced to fight with it. And since clicking on any weapon will default it to the primary slot if open you might not even realize it's overriding your better option until it's too late.Sol Lignum wrote: ↑Mon Jan 22, 2018 4:09 pmI don't see any reason not to add another checkbox next to weapon slots. In such case it just seems much wiser to leave it be. Price\weight\convenience, and in that example, risk ratio is just way off to consider it a valuable loot. The way it is now, anyway. If the requested option will be added, then it's a diffirent story, extra inventory never hurts. Then again, it's better to fill the space with two smaller weapons of similar quality, or non at all.
For me it's just a matter of simplicity. There're weapon slots and there're inventory slots, simple and fair. We already have alot of ways to costumise our characters and squads to add anything extra to it. Not that it would outright hurt, but i just can't see why it's needed. You want to punch someone? Good, don't equip any weapons. You wan't to fight with (insert_desired_weapon)? Alright, stick to it. You wan't to hit your enemies with everything you can at once? You've got more then one character. You wan't to have only one character? Well, the flatskin must think themself a choosen one of sorts, but very well, deal with your self-inflicted limit then.
What if your inventory is full? You will have to drop your weapons to not use them? Can't I just simply not unsheath my sword?Sol Lignum wrote: ↑Sat Jan 27, 2018 10:46 amYou want to punch someone? Good, don't equip any weapons.
So you have a polearm to fight those non-humanoid enemies with, but otherwise you prefer using your ninja blade that you've equipped on your secondary weapon slot. I guess I have to fight all enemies with the polearm?Sol Lignum wrote: ↑Sat Jan 27, 2018 10:46 amYou wan't to fight with (insert_desired_weapon)? Alright, stick to it.
What if you just want to train a certain weapon skill?Sol Lignum wrote: ↑Sat Jan 27, 2018 10:46 amYou wan't to hit your enemies with everything you can at once? You've got more then one character. For example your primary weapon is a heavy weapon, and you want to get your secondary weapon skill upped as well, so when you happen to fight indoors or one of your arms gets broken, you'll still stay effective? Do I have to unequip my heavy weapon? Do I have to wear a non-small backpack to put it in? Do I have to leave it in a chest? Or drop it on the ground? Can't I simply just, you know, not use it?

As I said: not everyone will need it, but those that want to switch between their main weapon and secondary weapon, this feature would be a blessing. It's not even an impossible feature to code in.

No, i mean, at all. Do not equip them at all
Well, yes, unless:
Why not to leave it in a chest?
To be clear, i'm not against changes, and i'm not fighting the idea, just bringing my point across. I also kinda see yours now. I'm almost out of arguments, and they were not quite constructive anyway, so i'll stop right here
