Squad dismissal Question

So I've been playing for a while, and my squad numbers are around 25ish. It has become a little bit unmanageable but I don't want to permanently kick out or murder a squad member. If I were to give a dismissed character a permanent job of sitting at a table in my outpost, would that character be there forever until I talk to them? What I'm afraid of is if that character will glitch out and disappear later down the road when I reload saves to continue playing. (Since at times, prisoners will reliably just disappear after a save/load or if you load a save that is too old)

Hard to say, but you can always save before dismissal, and see if they'd stay on their sit-job after. Then make a separate save and see if they dissapear, which i'm almost certain will happen, but you never know :)

I don't think they disappear. Had never any of my characters disappear like that.

But it is possible that he will starve to death.

I recently walked into a town in the desert and one of my dismissed squaddies walked out of the bar.
I was shocked as I dismissed them over in the cannibal area.

That's cruel! How were they though? Still equipped the same way they were when you let them go? Starving? Faring well? I've dismissed a guy once, and while i'm not particulary worried about him, it'd be very interesting to know what might happen :)

hm, although not necessary, I think it'd be cool if one day there could be special dialogue if X number of days have passed since you dismissed a squad-mate and then you meet and talk to them again. Plus maybe some dialogue unique to squads that have members of multiple races rather than the dialogue focusing in on that "one hive guy" in your group. Culturally in the Kenshi world isn't it quite strange to see a team of shek working with hive/humans? Someone "must" have something to say if they see that.

ps: I just tested it and they don't disappear for me right away but I am suspecting save/loading perhaps 4 times down the road will make them disappear for sure

I think it is quite doable, and in fact, partially implemented already. Some NPCs are having slightly diffirent reactions, depending on how long ago they've last seen the player, and also, HN will sometimes react to "beasts" in party, if greenlander male is presented as well.

However, it might not be possible to distinguish wether recruit've been in the player's party before or not, so those timed replies could only be non-specific. I may be wrong though.

Yeah well still naked as I took all his gear before letting him go, but he was healthy and not hungry which surprised me.

I wonder if your kicked out crew member could hold a grudge. Could be an Interesting twist if you walk into a bar and he attacks you. Or maybe he goes and joins a band of Dusty bandits and they come back and hunt you down. Or he hires some ninjas to try and kill you.

Hello. I think it will add some depth to the game if we can influence is future.
Example: Save a holy nation outlaw, train and reequip him exactly like an allied faction (specialist/mastercrafted), and make him join their roaming squads or guards.

I wonder if it's possible to mod in a system in which dismissed squad-mates can receive an option to "stay" at a certain player base forever until interacted with again. Kind of like a library of guys you don't need anymore but may possibly need again later. It has come to my attention that this, to me, is a very viable issue with the 30 limit squad system. I have a pack bull and 3 dogs when my characters were but lowly everyday traders, but now that they're much more powerful I no longer really need my pack bull and 3 dogs anymore but I don't want to just abandon them because animal lives matter. (and they're also quite op in a fight at this point, I just don't want to throw away my monsters).
