So maybe you like prosthetic limbs for the way that they look or for the stats that they provide, but can't install them due to, well, not having your limbs amputated.

Why not be able to improve your army on demand, instead of hoping that they get injured enough on the correct body part?
Surgical amputation and instant prosthetic installation.

Maybe require a certain medic skill level to be able to conduct the surgery safely?
Or maybe just have any thug to be able to just hack off the desired limb?
I don't care how it's done, I just need certain improvements on certain pawns.

We can rebuild them. We have the technology. We have the capability to make the world's first bionic army. Better than they were before. Better... Stronger... Faster.

Well, as much as it's been a dream of every futurism lover for quite a long time, robo limbs aren't the answer. As a last resort - yes, it is a solution, and a great one. But it's not an upgrade, not in every way at least. It's a replacement, substitution, and it can never outdo your own flesh. Not in every way at least. For every advantage you gain there always be a certain disadvantage.

It's a great idea for a minor faction of tech-zealots though. But if you're one of those, honestly, just throw your pawns at some enemy naked, and feel the joy of finally getting the desired limb cut off, yelling cheerfully something along the Credo Omnissiah lines, because replacements require sacrifice :)

Dunno about letting the player play frankenstein at will (well you kinda can already, and it's /ˈfræŋkənsti:n/ xd).
I honestly think that "upgrades" should be left to the right race, non-robots should have replacements just for the purpose of not being helpless forever once they lose a limb. This wish to have limbs removed because there is something better to stick in there doesn't sound right imho. Skeletons should be the ones that get real benefits from robotics, just my thoughts tho.

[EDIT] Damn you Sol get outta my head! Took me 1h to post, didn't read your answer xd

That runs the risk of getting my guts spilled our or my head cracked open.
__________
Regarding them "not" being upgrades, tell that to my Scout Legs (+ over 30% to athletics per leg), or Industrial Lifter Arms (+ over 20% strength per arm), or Steady Arms (+20% crossbows and +15% dexterity per arm), or Stealth Legs (+25% stealth +4% athletics per leg), etc.
Yeah, I think I'm willing to sacrifice some flesh-limbs. And any Holy Nation zealot that has a problem with that can come and get some.

That's what you need medic for. Just keep them nearby.

Yeah, sure, i can read too, and i've seen those crazy buffed percentiles on certain stats. But you lose flexibility. Biological limb won't give you any bonuses, but there're no penalties either, it's a middle ground that allows you to do everything just nicely.

Also, you're heretic :P

Nice thing you did with the phonetic alphabet there ;) Also, there's Eyegore ingame too... I'm still not sure wether he's a reference to that Igor or not though.

Equals to wasting time trying to get a specific limb chopped off if this is the way to go about it.
Which is why I request a surgical amputation feature in the first place.
Meaning if I want to amputate a limb, I won't need to gamble with time, but instead just amputate it on the spot.

This isn't really what this post is about, but if you want flexibility, then you can just cycle through robotic limbs to enhance the stats that you want.
  • Sneaking around? Stealth Legs.
  • Traveling? Scout Legs.
  • Fighting with light weapons/crossbows? Steady Arms.
  • Fighting with heavy weapons or carrying a heavy load? Industrial Lifter Arms.
  • Etc.
The flexibility comes from the ability to switch them instantly. And who really cares about some negative % on swimming? It's ever so rare.

Best part is, if surgical amputation was a feature, it would be optional. For those that do want to enhance a specific stat.
Just saying.

Why didn't add a surgical table (tech 5 - 6?)?

It could allow:
- put the initial limb back to the place
- amputation
- re/place a robotic limb
- plastic surgery

It would need a character assigned to the job. the skill level (medic) could affect:
- the time spend
- the options available

there are always been fans of transhumanism

I knew you'd say that, now imagine cycling through several replacements on 30 (and, potentially, more) squadmates ;)

I love that idea! Since the ability to make plastic surgeries has already been requested several times, and, really, if we've got the technology for robotics replacements to function, we should be able to put our chopped off limb back. It can have a certain timer on it, like time before rotten, and you'll be able to sew it back as long as it's good, a day or two, or something, after that - no options except robotics :)

You make it sound as that would be bad being an option.
Optional.
You don't have to cycle through them if you don't want to.
You don't have to surgically amputate your squadmates if you don't want to.
But why would it be bad to be an option for those that do want to?

It wouldn't be. But the way you've put it, it doesn't sound like a thing that'd benefit wide variety of gameplay styles, or a large group of players, and therefore, has less chances to be added. That's just how i see it.

Also, i just wanted to point out that it's not an upgrade in every way, and with exception of a few high-quality limbs, disadvantages of other items are considerable.

The Redgard's idea was awesome. To not just add the amputation alone, but some surgical table that'd do a bunch of neat things, plus, amputation for those who fancy it :)

And also snapping prosthetics on the go is kind of lame. If so it'll be - fine, limitations and all. But if it'd be possible, as originally stated in the 0.98.0 changelog, to use some kind of fancy bed to mount them, that'd be much much cooler.

Grimmrok don't hesitate to quote my suggestion (if you like it) in your first post by editing, to increase the chance that the dev's see it and take the time to think about it.

I'm all for it.

It makes sense to me, you are always gonna see some crazy people in the world doing weird stuff and Kenshi is a world where robot limbs are an option. And just as there are crazy people, there are crazy leaders who will try to create the perfect soldier or army or special forces and experiment with limb replacement to enhance those forces.

I'm surprised I haven't seen a faction build around it yet, some loony techno bandit faction who forces people to undergo limb replacement surgery in order to gain acceptance into their ranks, believing it'll make them stronger than the other factions. Maybe joining them and doing exceptional work for them can earn you more and better limb replacements. Sounds like a good people to raid if you're looking for better or special artificial limbs.

The idea of a faction which is fan of transhumanism could be cool.
It could be interesting to have a limb black market (with mechanical and biological limb), like there is slavery market.

Yeah I agree. In Borderlands 2, there is Wilheim who is addicted to mechanical modifications.

As for robo-parts not enhancing everything uniformly.. very true, but for specialized purposes, they're great. I stole the Holy Phoenix and ran off at light speed thanks to masterwork scout legs. 27 speed hauling him on the shoulder.

For amputations, I've selectively armored my guys to get the limb I want removed. Alternatively, you can get them incapped near carnivores. They seem to start with the Right Leg and work their way up the limb-chain before reaching the torso, stomach, or head. I suspect cannibals can be used similarly, but I haven't tried that yet.

Alternative method for getting rid of characters legs, take them to the Black Desert area with the acid rain. Have them wear rain gear but remove their shoes, their feet will melt off. I have a skeleton named 'The Baptist' that takes people to and from there to be reborn.

Now that sounds like a true cult of transhumanists.
