Perhaps it has something to do with ditching AI behaviour. I can't remember the exact name, but it's that thing that'll force characters to free their inventory of some production items that might get in a way of their current job. Have you tried to disable it? It's in the AI tab, somewhere at the top half, you won't miss it.

No, even when jobs are disabled they still don't eat, either way, the problem is that before they got food when they got hungry, work or no work, now they don't

if you just imported to .17 then try and redo the nav mesh, save and reload. I had the problem before and once I reloaded it worked.

Navigation mesh, i assume. A technical thing, hidden from player's eyes, that allows pathfinding. It breaks often, and to rebuild it you have to hit Ctrl+Shift+F11 while in game.

actually I'm now having the issue in one of my games as well. (thanks for jinxing me)
They stand around the food stores but don't take. I even built new stores and they still wont take food.
they put food in and move near the food storage when hungry but will not take it out.
I turned off ditch resources to see if that might be the issue, but no change.
Updating nav mesh didn't work.
They eat when you manually feed them and they leave to do their other work then, only to return and wait in line when they are hungry again.
I'll try some different save games to see if it's universal or just this save.

^^ I think everyone's having the Food bug, since the update no one grabs food from the Food Store barrel.

There's a fix mod on steam, if you want to fix it yourself, change the building fuctionality of the food store (and the animal feeder maybe?) to "Resource storage" instead of "Resource storage- NO EPTYING".

I'm guessing then that it was because of the "fix" to characters taking things from the storage and putting them in the animal food storage.
bummer.

Still happening on 0.98.27.

This is pretty much a showstopper for me, instead of enjoying the game it becomes a chore as I have to constantly check on their food and manually feed them. They keep working and just won't eat, even though I have plenty of full food storages.

- Tried CTRL+SHIFT+F11, didn't help
- Tried moving a food storage to another place - didn't help
- Tried saving, quitting, restarting, reloading - nothing

You can find a zipped save folder file here: https://www.dropbox.com/s/zxl5eb3sho97ruu/t34.zip?dl=1

Imported to 0.98.29 as I'm on experimental, but all characters that went for the food storage ate, and it's now empty, if I put more food in, they come and eat, so working fine here.
