right now a turret on the ground with a light nearby is better than a turret with a light on it mounted to a wall. this should not be. having darkness all around but light in your face actually makes it harder to see off into the darkness, but a light pointing in a direction would illuminate much more for a person shooting off into the distance at night. When i see my guys illuminating a target, but still have a -50% to ranged skills, i feel like there is no point in even building a wall, or attaching lights to my turrets. It also breaks my immersion into Kenshi.

Makes sense to me. Probably the issue is one of how that's calculated. Where light near the workstation is the determining factor. But for a turret, light on the target itself would be more useful and light on you would really only make it easier to hit you.

Moving light on a turret should be a bonus, but lighting up the area where the target is should be a better one.
Think of trying to hold a flashlight on a target, compared to having the whole area lit. The second is much easier to hit something.
But a light on a turret should certainly be better then nothing if the area outside is unlit.

Think bk3k is right. It's not about target being in the darkness, it's about you not seeing your workstation (turret in this case) properly. Maybe, if darkness penalty on spotlight versions would have been eliminated completely or to a certain degree, it would solve the issue?
