AMD Ryzen 7 5800X 8-Core Processor 3.80 GHz
32 GB Ram
Windows 10 Pro 64 Bit
Default Start (The one in the Hub)
No mods/Maxed graphics settings, runs mostly around 60 frames but can spike up to 80 or down to 50 depending on zoom lvl.
Attempting to load any file while ingame causes guaranteed insta-crash.
Attempting to load autosaves specifically also causes guaranteed crashes, even from the main menu. Manual and Quicksaves are not affected. Also creating autosaves doesn't cause any crashes, just loading them does.
Seconds after my whole squad moves to another area (when the load bar appears and finishes) the game crashes too. Tested it 2 or 3 times. Same result.
Can't remember if crashes appeared whenever just a single character moved to another area while the rest stayed in the Hub, but crashes did happen in/around these situations.
Sometimes crashes happen just like that, when all my squad members are in the same area, or just stand as a group together somewhere, doing absolutely nothing.
For some reason, the first six or so hours where crash-free. The first few attempts to load during the game didn't cause any crashes either.
It all started roughly when i sent my main character somewhere else on an expedition while the rest was performing a mining operation at the Hub. From there on the game would crash every few minutes and some time later trying to load a save suddenly also caused instant crashes.
I already tried it with the area hopping option turned off and with lower texture settings. Unsurprisingly to me it didn't help, because the people that gave this tips admittedly played on potatos and i'm unwilling to believe that my hardware is insufficient to properly run Kenshi.
I hope that the crash report can give more information of what's going on. I'm still pretty much as clueless as when the first crash happened. I just wonder why it didn't happen from the very beginning. I think I played the first 6 crash-free hours without loading and closing the game, so maybe loading in for the first time did something with my save-file. I haven't tried it with a new game yet.
Edit: Unchecking distant town generation made it possible for me to wander to another area without crashing, and loading surprisingly also worked. I have no idea how these two could be intertwined given that distant town generation seems to be just about LODs but i guess there are reasons why Lofi switched from a supposedly 15 year old engine to UE4. That was just a quick check if it works at all, now i have to test if the game runs longer than a few minutes in a row.
Edit : Just here to say that "Distant Town Generation" actually was the culprit. Had an entire wonderful session where i could finally just helplessly sit there and watch my entire squad eat dirt every 5 minutes without a crash, just as it should have always been.
A moment of silence for our beloved bonepuppy Bernard, he barely made it into adulthood. After the last raid he was in such a bad condition and starving anyway so we decided to put his misery to and end. May his barks echo through these damn wastes forever. One day we will eradicate every single bandit and errect the greatest city in the world of Kenshi on their bones in his name where humans, skeletons, hivers, bonepeople and bonedogs alike will live together in peace and harmony except for Okranites, they can put their holy books where Narko resides. But before this day arrives we will have to eat more dirt. Unfortunately it's not very nutritious.
