This way a compass isn't as necessary, when traveling long distances -- if by version 0.23 the path finding is said to be revamped -- wouldn't it be easier to travel via map clicking instead of terrain clicking?

Mainly because when traversing through mountainous terrain downhill the camera might be inside the mountain when you right click to go forward and the angle of the camera is aligned to the horizon, it clips into the mountain, the terrain registers on the face of the mountain that you're going away from and you go backwards because of it.

To clarify I do not mean fast travel.

that would be a good idea at this sage however i feel it would ruin the game. That is if your on about fast travel via map locations???

Its time to look at the bigger picture, Everything has a reaction and from that reaction comes a consequence which turns to a reaction, Therefore making a chain of reactions which can change the world we live in!!!

What will you do...

Hah, no I don't mean fast travel. You'll miss all the bandits that way ;)

Depends on the new pathing system though, might not be possible. The camera will probably be fixed so you cannot go through terrain or objects in the future too.

Wish it were possible, its a little annoying trying to travel long distances, especially since I feel the camera doesn't zoom out far enough for me.

Impressive! Although I imagine you would have to update the map based on current established cities and future buildable cities. Unlike JA2's static map only with enemy locations updated.

How are you going to deal with the bandit encounters on the map, same style?

I'll still be able to travel by foot instead of map though right?

You still can, ofcourse you can, that's what being an open-world free-roaming RPG is all about!

hmm... guess hiring, maybe a caravan, to take you between towns is out?

I'd love this, but instead of just travelling with I want to hire myself out as a guard to said caravan!

Yeah, it'd be great to be able to hire yourself as a caravan guard like Fallout 2 or something. You could also add a mechanic that you'd get paid more/less by how well you protect the goods. e.g. having pack animals or ox-driven carts with some of the bandits trying to nab stuff out of the back while the guards are engaged.

Maybe even a faction ranking system for the merchant faction (already implemented?), so you can eventually try your hand at protecting more valuable merchandise/bigger caravans/more dangerous routes.

i dont think a ranking system is implemented as said. rather its a friend or foe. you cant gain your reputation back after they are at war with you unless you start a new game.

there are mercenaries, so i am guessing eventually we will have missions for or with them. id love to be a mercenary and choose good deeds instead of killing, but maybe we wont have that choice. you get a mission, but if you dont finish it in time or fail you are going to be hunted by them.

the tree is endless with options. :)

chris said roads were going to be implemented in the game so im guessing some sort of travel will be available between towns without running everywhere. or maybe a faster way to get between them. (i only played WoW and they at least had mounts and air travel. this is NOT WoW and it never will be. i was merely making a reference.)
