Likely going to turn this thread into an FAQ of sorts

after placing a building "blueprint" i suppose it is how do you actually put your materials into it and build the thing?

noticed the help screen says "your character will run over to it and build it".... this isn't happening. Even if it was, shouldn't there be a way to order people to work on a building without having them start the construction?

edit: managed to get them to build a training dummy outside but i still cant get them to build actual buildings.

Edit2: this is probably intended to not be in yet but you cant deconstruct buildings training dumees or furniture atm.

If your character has building materials in his inventory, he should add them to the building automatically, then start construction.
To make another character build too, just select them and right-click on the unfinished building.

You can keep materials in your backpack and it still works. For those having issues. Try moving the character to a new spot on the ground. Make sure far is selected buttons on the bottom right of GUI. Then a right click -> Build should get them to run over and start. Alternatively, I have had to move my character near the building location and try several spots before the character would run over to the building.

Maybe a pathfinding issue? I notice that my character is basically inside the texture for the new building when he actually gets to work. Could the new building foot print interfere with path finding leaving the character unable to find their way to the spot they need?

Are there bugs with this then? Is it only certain buildings, or just random?

I had this issue while trying to build my first building in a new game. I tried to build a large house. In the beginning I only had 6 or 7 materials in my inventory. I could put down blue and green building placeholders but nothing would happen building wise. I remembered that there would be building info in the help notes and I read that info. I found a spot between the starting town and another not too far. Right on the line from where the placeholders would go from blue to green. I got it pointed the right way and right clicked it and this time I got a partially built building with some scaffolding around it.

Character didn't move though. This is where I tried different things to get my one guy to start building. Eventually I moved him closer to the building and he ran up to it and added the materials and started building. He stands right inside the white rectangular box at the stairs. Coming back with more materials the second time also saw problems getting the character to move to the building and add the materials. He would just squat down the same as when looting. Re-positioning the character worked again. After that I had no problems but I had started coming back with materials from a different town in another direction.

Built a saloon next to the house. The saloon couldn't be built too close to another town and I got lucky being on that invisible boundary and got to put it close to the house on a different side than what I wanted. The saloon went up in minutes with no problems.

I like that I'm on the map now. That's really cool. I want to start a new game with the same guy and test some more at a quicker pace. Besides I cant sell anything now in response to my trader murders.
